Sometimes after a storm chase is over your driving back home and you run across a post storm sunset that's simply magical. Returning from Marysville, KS on June 24th I stumbled onto a nice barn along side the road around sunset time. My goal was to get lightning over the barn at sunset but the lightning did not cooperate. The sunset sure did however. One of my all time sunset photos.

Normally when I chase after dark I'm looking for lightning to photograph. On this night in Southern Iowa a saw plenty of lightning but what I was not expecting was the spectacular storm structure from these supercells. I hope its something I get to experience again very soon.

Once the fury of the storm passes the calm of the textures and colors are often times amazing. West of Pella, IA June 20, 2021.

If you where to as ask me what my perfect chase would be my answer would be a chase that's close to home that yields some special results. While a few minutes late to the storm, a supercell out by Bagley, IA on June 22, 2021 gave me those results. This storm was a beast as it passed in front of me giving me a nice view of structure and colors as sunset approached.

Supercells in southern IA last night put on a good light show. Some of the best structure I've seen in Iowa after dark. Will be spending the day getting things done as I'll be spending Fathers Day in full blown chase mode. Big severe weather day tomorrow.
