One more great pair of #physics senior project talks. Congrats to all our seniors! Even though we’re not physically together, we’re rooting for you! @luthercollege #seniors2020

We are excited to announce that we are having a virtual Haunted Lab experience this year. We will release it as a YouTube video on the main Luther College YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCV-4UmKY6xa-4y6OzHMGBsA) on October 28. We will do a variety of different experiments, involving fire, magnets, bottle rockets, hungry dragons, and much more. Four of the experiments you can participate with us at home. There is a list of materials included in the press release. Feel free to choose one experiment to do at home or try all four. The video should be fun for all ages, especially kids. Please share this post with your friends and family. We really want to get the word out! See this press release for details: https://www.luther.edu/headlines/?story_id=926695

We are learning about how energy conservation applies to Hot Wheels cars this week in Physics 151 lab. Lots of creative ideas on how to get the energy of the car launcher!

The pandemic has changed a lot of things and made some things more difficult, and so I'm grateful that I was able to get this paper finalized just as the pandemic started. It has been "in press" (as they say) all summer and now it's out! Let's all hope for a productive Fall semester! Luther College #physics #physicsresearch #engineering #engineeringresearch

We’re had a lots of fun in General Physics this week making a prediction about where a pair of cars would collide and learning about Newton’s Laws!

First 2 physics senior project talks done virtually! We had a great turnout, with a much more diverse audience than we would have had on campus.

It's that time of year! Physics T-shirt time! We have another great specialized Luther Physics design this year, developed by our Physics students! We also have a light blue generic Luther Physics shirt available. You can use this order form (https://drive.google.com//14tPGXn407nycs2uQEaiw_Q6y3/view) to purchase shirts. The form says the deadline is March 24, but if you got us your form by March 31, that would be fine.

We usually think of Einstein as the old man with wild hair, but when he did some of his first groundbreaking work he was young. Today in 1905 he finished his thesis, so, like our students, he was trying to make progress on his academics while balancing other stresses in his life (in his case he was trying to feed his young family on the only job he could get after college).

Are Space Elevators still discussed during Physics Tea with the same frequency as when Nathan Lee and myself were still around? I highly recommend the Physics ...folks check out this video (and YouTube channel) for a very accessible and interesting explanation of modern physics/engineering topics. Enjoy! See more

Slow mo on testing a prediction. Students predicted which setting of the launcher would get the car around the loop. Will it make it? @luthercollege #physics #physicsfun #scientifictesting

Calling all Physics-loving folks like us... we've got about 10 minutes before the first launch from US soil of astronauts since Space Shuttle Atlantis set out for the last such mission 9 years ago. The video will be archived, but if you're around and following, go watch! :)
