State 4-H Recognition is the process in which senior 4-H members in grades 9-12 can apply to be selected for special statewide opportunities such as awards and trips. The purpose of this event is to provide an avenue for youth recognition and to provide young people with an opportunity to practice and grow leadership, communications, and college and career readiness skills through application and interview activities. Join us in congratulating our Johnson County 4-H members who have been awarded State Recognition Opportunities!
Club Spotlight The Horse and Pony Club used their hands for larger service with Miracles in Motion helping prepare for the upcoming year! Members raked leaves, pulled weeds, and helped with yard work ... More members helped paint and clean the arena area Even more members helped organize and clean tack ...and so much more! This crew worked hard, had lots of laughs, and made a huge difference!
Club Spotlight Golden Rule Golden Stars members learned how to make grapevine wreaths with the assistance of club leaders Janet Driscoll, Mary Burr, and Kris Lumb. Returning members taught and helped new members in the art of grapevine wreath making. Members worked together to create their wreath with a variety of embellishments. Can you spot the bunny wreath?! ... Members can incorporate their new learned skills and wreath into a Visual Arts Exhibit for county fair and expand on their knowledge of the Elements and Principals of Design. Way to go GRGS members on learning a new skill!
Single Source Swine Weigh-In is in the books! We had a great team this morning weighing, tagging, and loading up our 46 hogs! Shoutout to Dylan, Moriah, Erin, Rhonda, and Autumn for helping out this morning!! What exactly is Single Source Swine? ... Families pre-order a specific number of pigs through the office. A local producer supplies hogs that have been weaned on the same date, have been fed the same up until weigh-in day, and are similar in genetic makeup. Families then take their pigs home and choose how and what feed ration to feed their hogs. They are brought back to fair and show against one another. This project area really puts the education back into the hands of the 4-H member! Stop on out to the 2021 Johnson County Fair to see our Single Source Swine class during the Swine Show!
