We had a great night at our Christmas/winter party. Our other half got to experience what it was like to wear our gear. They all said they have a new found appreciation for what we go through getting dressed and the weight we put on for a call.

O’Brien County EMA set up a joint training last night here in Hartley that involved Hartley Ambulance, Hartley PD, O’Brien County Sherrif Department, Hartley Fire, and Community Memorial Health Center. At 6:00pm Hartley Ambulance, Fire, and PD were all paged to a mock accident in the high school parking lot. Upon arrival we had to assess the scene and try to figure out if it was safe to rescue all victims involved. Once it was determined that we would be ok in our PPE to pe...rform a rescue, that was done then decontamination was performed and victims went to triage at the ambulance. When it was determined that there needed to be an investigation by the officers, they were called in to do their investigation. During this training, the nursing home was going through their hazmat incident protocols as well. It was a great training for all involved. We would like to send a big thank you out to the HMS High School for letting us use your parking lot for our training last night. We would also like to thank Jared from the EMA for setting this up and getting a grant for the funding for this training. Also as a result of this training, we were able to get a new 4 gas monitor with some of the funding. We will use this monitor for Co2 calls and any other time there is a need to monitor oxygen and harmful gas levels.
