January’s Bourbon of the Month Breckenridge Distillers High (105) Proof Blend Bourbon Whiskey After 1 sip of Breckenridge Bourbon Whiskey you’ll agree that it is as smooth of a ride as the one you’ve had in a long while. Just imagine yourself carving up some fresh powder on the steep slopes surrounding the town of Breckenridge, Colorado near the distillery. I’ve never been, but after a round or two (or three) of this bourbon I’m sure you’ll be ready to trek out there and se...e for yourself. Bryan Nolt founded Breckenridge Distillery in 2007, one could say that this was a beginnings of some sort of hipster rags-to-riches whiskey tale that includes Nolt selling his house to keep the distillery afloat. It’s been almost eleven years since the Distillery That Could has proven itself to the whiskey world and warmed the hearts of fans worldwide. Breckenridge Bourbon Whiskey is made from a blend of high-rye mash bill mixed with Rocky Mountain snowmelt into a traditional open-top Scottish fermenter and then distilled using a Vendome copper pot still. It’s then aged in new American Oak barrels for 2 to 3 years and it is considered a high-rye bourbon. Nose: It whiffs of creamy sweetness, perhaps a butterscotch concoction of corn, raisins, brown sugar and baked apple pie. There is a definite spiciness that lingers in the back of your nose like a light pepper sneeze. Palate: Each sip is greeted by a smooth honey like taste then a slow yet satisfying building back of the throat burn that seems to last. Then the creaminess of the corn is pleasantly balanced by the rye’s robust character with a hint of char tags along behind the oaky kick before disappearing, almost without a trace. Finish: Overall I must say that this bourbon goes down easy with all the feels of a cinnamon spiced cider in autumn. This is a prime example of a (multi-tool bourbon). You can enjoy it with your friends who are passionate about their bourbon and they’ll love it. You can also feel comfortable sharing it with those who prefer their bourbon in a cocktail. Overall: First of all it simply tastes great. Nothing else really matters. But if you need another reason consider the fact that this bourbon was made in the mountains, outside of Kentucky and is only a few years old. It’s not a game changer by no means but the bottom line is this is a fun and delicious tasting bourbon that will melt the snow right off your boots. A must have for your home bar. December’s Bourbon of the Month "Colonel E.H. Taylor Four Grain Bourbon!" Colonel E.H. Taylor Jr. Four Grain Bourbon is a small batch, limited release whiskey made from a distinct bourbon recipe using corn, rye, wheat, and malted barley. It was distilled in 2005 and entered into the barrel at 104 proof. According to Buffalo Trace, they claim the mash bill of corn, malted barley, rye and wheat is part of honoring tradition. Apparently, these were the four grains available ...to Colonel Edmond Haynes Taylor Jr. when he was originally bottling bourbon in the late 1800’s The brand also uses labeling similar to the original bottling, and even ships in wooden crates. E.H. Taylor Four Grain is a Bottled-in-Bond (BiB) bourbon. To be labelled BiB, the whiskey must be the product of one distillation season and one distiller at a single distillery, aged in a federally bonded warehouse under U.S. government supervision for at least four years, and it must be bottled at exactly 100 proof. Additionally, the BiB label must clearly identify the distillery where it was distilled and where it was bottled, if different. NOSE: It’s rather subdued yet reluctant but controlling, with floral and fruity overtone provides the base for the aromas. The caramel was there from the outset, along with a hint of the floral and fruity overtone that provides the base for the aromas. Some sweet vanilla comes out to accent the caramel, along with a very light trace of anise, rye and oak. PALATE: This complementing opulent whiskey leans heavily on the sweet and spicy side followed by lingering vanilla ice cream and butter pecan pie all bundled together providing the backbone of the flavor profile. Most noteworthy is that gentle smoky barrel char and cinnamon toast which make nice compliments striking the perfect chord of refinement and approachableness. FINISH: This finish is in fact the heaviest part of the experience and I must add well disciplined. A wave of caramel washes right over it and as it drains away leaving lasting warmth that pops during the finish but overall, this drink is on the lighter side for a 100 proof bourbon. OVERALL: This Mash Bill Bourbon from Buffalo Trace is a sweet and gentle affair. It’s reasonably priced compared to similar limited releases, this bourbon is worth sipping! Mature flavors and opulence make it ideal for sipping and savoring. However, what it lacks in complexity, it makes up for in enjoyability. So if you’re looking for a style with restraint, you won’t find it here Just some damn good sipp’n Whiskey is all Come by Frank’s Bar & Grill for your complimentary pour!

"November's Bourbon of the Month Wild Turkey 101 Rye!" Wild Turkey 101 Rye is a product of the Austin Nichols distillery in Lawrenceburg Kentucky. It was once a mainstay in the rye whiskey section at your local liquor store. It’s origins are in a 1940 hunting trip, as you’ll learn from the blurb on the back of every bottle of Wild Turkey Bourbon. In 2012, Wild Turkey released an 81 proof version due to supply restraints and announced that 101 Rye would be put on allocation. T...he bottle was quickly bought up and disappeared from store shelves. A year later the company announced Wild Turkey 101 Rye’s return, but that turned out to be somewhat superficial, as it was only found in select bars and restaurants. This is slowly changing, as there has been a trickle of Wild Turkey 101 Rye to retail shelves over the past few years. It now sports a new 1 liter bottle, higher price tag, and Wild Turkey’s 2016 label redesign. NOSE: A provocative bouquet of caramel, vanilla, honey, grain, and dark fruit appear overtop of fainter hints of toffee, Crème Brûlée and baking spices help build up the complexity a bit and it ends up being a pleasant aroma. The notes are enjoyable and robust like many rye whiskeys, yet still soft enough to keep the nose from being harsh. PALATE: While sipping, the intensity of its proof immediately fills your throat and nose with hardy grain and spice. Hidden underneath are complex spice mixed with some grains and dark fruit give way to toffee and wood that builds to a warm dark sweetness towards the end. It’s also worth noting the whiskey’s slight buttery consistency, combined with additional oak notes, goes a long way making up for some of the palate’s straightforward simplicity. FINISH: The medium length finish leaves a hot sweet cinnamon, spicy and woody with mild notes of caramel and vanilla popping up along the way. There are few surprises thanks to a straightforward and somewhat predictable rye finish. OVERALL: If you’re looking for a light and easy whiskey with decent proof and full flavor there’s no doubting the quality of Wild Turkey’s almost 40 years’ experience distilling rye whiskey shines through despite the whiskey’s basic nature and has enough uniqueness to set it apart from other barely legal Kentucky straight rye whiskeys in its price tier. February’s Bourbon of the Month Evan Williams Kentucky Straight Bourbon Bourbon drinkers know what they like, and bourbon drinkers like Evan Williams. Evan Williams, was a jack of all trades including a politician who would bring his moonshine to dry meetings wherein it would be confiscated by authorities. Although, rumor has it he always left with an empty jug. This standard Black Label offering is second only to standard Jim Beam in global sales. Previously, Evan Willi...ams carried a 7 year age statement. Recently, to meet growing demand, that age statement has been dropped. It’s sweet, smooth, and packed with flavor- especially so for an 86 proof whiskey. However, I felt like the finish left me wanting just a bit more. It lacked punch and bite. Although it’s likely due to the lower proof, you still can’t brushed it aside. I’m looking forward to sampling the White Label (100 Proof Bottled-in-Bond) version very soon. Don’t sleep on black label Evan Williams, if lower proof is your thing, give it a shot. Nose: Every single barrel bottle will have slightly different notes than the year or bottle before it. The nose shows soft hints of tropical fruit, vanilla, caramel and leather. Palate: The palate a little bit of summer fruit to go along with the aromas that continues with the addition of sea-salt caramels and peanuts. Finish: The finish is moderate length with fruit flavors continuing along with caramel that lingers with tannins from the barrel showing through till the end along with a slight touch of peppermint. Overall: This must-have bourbon should be on the back shelf of every home bar for everyday consumption. It’ll make a wonderful Manhattan or enjoyed on its own after a long work day, or keep in mind as Mardi Gras approaches, it makes a great Sazerac. I promise that you’ll look forward to pouring multiple tastes of this whiskey throughout the month of February especially on the 14th, because what romantic evening doesn’t start and end with bourbon. Happy Valentine’s Day! As always keep on sipp’n and come by Frank’s Bar & Grill for your complimentary pour

March’s Bourbon of the Month Garrison Brothers Single Barrel Bourbon You’ll find Garrison Brothers Distillery in the heart of the Texas Hill County north of San Antonio, east of Luckenbach, west of Austin and near Johnson City. It’s a small craft distillery in the truest sense of the term. After the departure of a few legendary craft whiskey distiller Chip Tate from Balcones Distilling, the field was wide open in the Lone Star State for top whiskey dog distillery. Garrison... Brothers believe they are pursuing the Holy Grail of artisan craftsmanship, and their single barrel bourbon is an example of that. For the new single barrel bourbon program, Garrison Brothers pulled 342 15 gallon barrels from its inventory of aging whiskey. Each of these barrels, with their own unique taste profiles and flavor complexities, are expected to produce up to 81 bottles of bourbon. Garrison Brothers Single Barrel Bourbon is described as an three year old, 94 proof and big brother to the distillery’s flagship Texas Straight Bourbon. Both are made from organic Panhandle corn, soft red winter wheat, two-row malted barley and pure, clean Hill Country rainwater, according to Garrison Brothers. Nose: Pronounced yet delivers butterscotch, vanilla, oak and some light nutmeg. It’s aroma is very delightful which adds greatly to the overall enjoyment, so don’t rush this part of the whiskey experience. Take a little patience and a little self-control to help focus your attention. Palate: The taste is almost entirely from mid-mouth to the back. The sweet caramel, vanilla and oak help create a warm and inviting environment, but it’s the sweet oak flavor seems to primarily drive this tasting. Finish: The extended finish brings the taste back to the middle of the mouth before settling down. The finish brings multiple waves of flavor, but in a very gentle way. Overall: Bottom line: Garrison Brothers Single Barrel offers a very enjoyable experience. If a bourbon connoisseur wants to purchase, they can buy an entire barrel for themselves, said distillery owner Dan Garrison in a statement. All they have to do is place the order with their Liquor Store, and the distillery will contact the customer and arrange a barrel tasting day.
