Evansdale Water Works 19.03.2022

UPDATE 01/13/21 12:10 P.M. The break is fixed and water pressure has been restored. You do NOT need to boil your water. We suggest letting a cold water faucet run for about 15 minutes before using water today. Customers in and near this area may experience rusty water until the system has calmed down from the disruption, so we would suggest that you avoid doing laundry today. It is impossible to predict the streets that may or may not be affected due to several variables that... can move pockets of rusty water around a system. Thanks to all of our great customers for your patience and understanding!

WATER MAIN BREAK...WATER MAIN BREAK 01/12/21 5:08 P.M. We have a water main break near 627 Second Street. Crews will mobilize after locates are done by other utilities (gas, electric, cable, etc.) tomorrow morning. Customers on Second Street between First Avenue and Third Avenue will be without water starting about 9:00 a.m. tomorrow. Please prepare for your water needs now. Once the water is turned down tomorrow, you will be without water until the break is repaired. There is no way to predict how long that may be since there are many variables involved. It could be anywhere from an hour or two, to several hours. People in a wider area may experience rusty water due to the disturbance in the system. Details will be posted as work progresses. Thank you in advance for sharing this with people in this part of town.

WINTER INFORMATION NOTICE 02/14/21 AT 5:03 P.M. If you haven't checked the temperature of the water coming from your cold water faucet yet this winter, you may want to. Any time the water temp (not the air temperature outside) falls below 40 degrees, we suggest letting one faucet in your house or building run a trickle of water during long periods of in-activity, such as overnight or during the day when no one is home to use any water. The water stream only needs to be the s...ize of the lead in a lead pencil. It just needs to be enough to keep the water moving through your service line so it doesn't have a chance to be still and freeze up. If you don't have a basement, or the insulation is poor in any wall where a water pipe runs along or nearby, you need to be extra diligent in checking your water temp. You don't need a special type of thermometer. Any style that lets you put the sampling tip in the stream of water will do. A candy or meat thermometer is a good example. Let your cold water faucet run for a couple of minutes before testing the temperature. That way, you are sure that you're testing the fresh water from the water main out in the street rather than the water that may have been sitting in your pipes in the house. If you're using a digital thermometer be sure to keep the tip in the stream of water until the temperature holds pretty steady. Mine at home has been running about 44.1 or 44.2 degrees the last few days. If you think this is a bother...checking your water temp once in a while is MUCH MORE convenient than dealing with frozen lines!!! One good thing about all of the snow we have gotten this winter is that it acts like a blanket on top of the ground, and the frost level doesn't go nearly as deep. The closer the frost gets to where the mains are located (about 6 feet underground) the more likely we are to have a main break. That is not to say that we won't have any breaks this winter since there are other factors that may help determine if and when a break may happen. We hope everyone stays warm these next few days and start counting the days until spring (March 1st or the 20th depending on how traditional you are)!!!

WATER MAIN BREAK...WATER MAIN BREAK 02/14/21 5:31 P.M. We have a water main break at 370 Wema Avenue. This is one block east of the intersection of Evans Road & Wema Avenue. Crews will mobilize after locates are done by other utilities (gas, electric, cable, etc.) tomorrow morning. Customers in the 300 block of Wema will be without water starting about 9:00 a.m. tomorrow. If your house is on the corner of Evans Road and this block of Wema, you may also be affected. Please p...repare for your water needs now. P.S: If you just finished reading our "Winter Information Notice" you may find this post a little ironic...just as trying to predict the weather has many variables to take into consideration, so too does the idea of predicting water main breaks. This is life in Iowa!!
