Tummy time! What is the fuss with all this tummy time talk? It is vital that you give your baby plenty of supervised, alert time lying on their stomachs from the get-go. Not only does it help develop their cervical (neck) curve, but it also helps get them ready for crawling on all fours and with activating their vestibular system. It is a great way to establish head control AND a solid foundation for their neurological health and development. How long should I have my baby do... tummy time? There are many suggestions on specific lengths of time out there. In general, as much time as possible spent on their stomachs is ideal. Offering many shorter spurts earlier on-and helping them change position when they do not seem to be enjoying it-will help it feel like less of a chore for you and baby. As they get older, you may find they prefer it as it better allows them to look around at their surroundings. If your little one isn’t enjoying this position, there are several variations you can try. 1) Carry them prone while supporting their tummy with your arm, the airplane pose. 2) Lie on your back while they lie on your chest facing you. Many babies enjoy the close proximity and face to face interaction. 3) Have them lie on an exercise ball (while carefully supporting them). You can gently roll it forward and back and from side to side slightly while supporting their pelvis to challenge their core. Also, bring your baby in to be examined by a chiropractor. Gently removing any restrictions from their spine can help them better participate and enjoy tummy time as well as give further ideas on ways you can help aid in ease of proper development. #tummytime #eldorafamilychiropractic

This was unsettling news for many parents to read in regards to learning that popular baby foods have contaminants in them that are not wanted. https://www.foodsafetynews.com//new-report-says-arsenic-o/ This also further affirmed our love of practicing Baby Led Weaning when introducing solids for our own littles. With our own sample size of 1, we found many benefits:... -easy to incorporate -helped us look closer at how healthy we adults were eating -created a good little eater-as a 3 year old, our son will try most foods we offer him and still gets in a good variety of nutritious foods Check out the book Baby Led Weaning: The Essential Guide to Introducing Solid Foods and Helping Your Baby Grow up to a Happy and Confident Eater by Gill Rapley and Tracey Murkett. It helps give you markers to look for when your child is ready and some tips for getting started. #eldorafamilychiropractic #babyledweaning

We like to test recipes before recommending them, so you’ll have to save this one for next year or any time you want a fun breakfast. We really enjoyed these fun, fluffy pancakes for a festive St. Patty’s Day supper tonight-and your kids will never guess how they got to be a brilliant green color. In the spirit of the day, take opportunities to improve your luck when it comes to your health. We hope you had a fun St. Patty’s Day! ... https://www.spinach4breakfast.com/spinach-banana-pancakes/

Last fall I was able to cross off a big professional bucket list item after obtaining my Certification from the Academy Council on Chiropractic Pediatrics (CACCP) through the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA). I’ve been working on this goal for years in taking over 200 hours of post graduate seminars through the ICPA focusing on prenatal and pediatric studies. My efforts culminated last summer in taking and passing a comprehensive written examination. My... journey in studying prenatal and pediatric chiropractic care admittedly started more for myself so I could have an advantage in knowing more when we would choose to grow our own family someday. However, once I started attending classes with these very knowledgeable and passionate instructors, I fell in love with learning more and wanted to take in as much as I could to help make a bigger impact on my community. I feel our health is one of our greatest assets and there is no bigger way to make an impact in the world than starting with the next generation. (And yes, I’m still so very grateful for all the knowledge and care I’ve been able to draw from and put into practice in going through my own two pregnancies and raising our two healthy young boys.) I love being able to help support and educate expecting moms and kiddos of all ages in functioning optimally, the way their body was designed to. I love getting to know my patients, their stories, and what their goals are so we can get them there together. Thank you for continuing to let me serve you and live out my passion in helping others improve their health and quality of life, as I look forward to continuing to do so in 2021 and beyond. -Emily Stoulil, DC, CACCP
